Efforts were afoot recently on the Polk County School Board (in the Tampa, FL
area) to begin teaching the "concept" of intelligent design in science classes
as an alternative to evolution, at a time when new state standards mentioning
evolution by name for the first time are under consideration. It appeared that
this bonehead move had the support of a majority of the school board, but that
was before the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster arrived...

What do you think about just removing any discussion about origin of life and just stick to pure science? Including macro-evolution.
Pure science is developing a theory, then testing the theory. I'm all for it.
It seems that, by suggesting we "stick to pure science," you are saying that the theory of evolution is not science. I know I will not get anywhere with you in an argument, but ID is not science. It does not generate testable hypotheses. It is a belief, not a science.
It is fruitless to argue. I will never convince you, and you will never convince me. Your beliefs are based on the Bible, and mine are not. I think I am correct in assuming you will refuse to believe anything that contradicts what you believe the Bible says. So, arguing with a person who, before the argument starts, has in essence said, "I'll never believe x,y and z" would be foolish for me.
Along the same lines, nothing you say can give me the faith that you have. We have had this discussion in person before.
I think it best we just agree to disagree.
I think you know where I stand. I do not dispute science nor do I think creation needs to be taught in schoool. We both see the same facts. My question is why do science teachers need to talk about the orgin of life when they don't know for sure. How is that not different they saying God created everything? Why can't they stick with what is dna, cells, organs, etc. Once they take the leep and say we all evolved from a common ancestor then they leave pure science. It is based on theory and imagination in the same way as ID. Sure we can come up with computer models. Sure it can be tested and studied but the fact remains neither you or I can say where and how life started. Creationist have theories and studies too by the way. Computer models with facts etc. That doesn't mean creationists are right and should be taught in our school. Why do we need or have to teach our kids either theory as it was fact.I would argue that we dont need to talk about the orgin of life at all unless it can be answered with fact. I remember learning in high school that we no longer need our appendix as the cave men once did. This proves evolution my science teacher told me. Then once I got in Pharma sales I learned that although we can live without our appendix it takes a great toll on our body. Other organs have to pick up the slack for its function. Was I lied to in High school? Are Vesitigial organs still taught in todays science classes? Maybe I had a bad science teacher and this is not the norm here but it is statements like these that really make me mad.
