The girls are climbing a basalt rock formation in north Yellowstone National Park. It's called Sheepeater cliff (named for the Shoshone Indians of the area, who used bighorn sheep in their diets), and it was formed when basalt lava was cooled in columnar joints about 500,000 years ago. Nobody was hurt in taking this photo.
